Among teenagers in an Australian town, an unusual pastime is gaining popularity. The ritual is to light a candle, squeeze a creepy ceramic hand, and say "Talk to me"—and then you can see a ghost and even briefly let it into you. Despite the fact that the previous owner of the artifact committed suicide, the kids at parties eagerly experiment with the hand's unusual abilities, until one of the summoned ghosts turns out to be the mother of 17-year-old Mia, who died two years ago.
