Anna Dela Vega, a capable American student, comes to Oxford for a year to study literature and poetry. During the first week she is accidentally splashed by Jamie Davenport, who is driving by in a car. Soon Anna discovers that he would be teaching in one of her courses. At first they don't get along and trade barbs, but then they spend an evening together in a pub.
