Joseon, 1623. After the dethronement of the monarch Gwanghaegun, the country descends into chaos. A few years later, soldiers of the Qing Empire take peasants as slaves on foreign soil; their leader seeks a worthy opponent for a sword duel, and an ordinary girl tries to find a cure for her father, who is going blind.
