Kate, a meteorology student, together with her boyfriend Ines and several friends, chases a rogue tornado in Oklahoma for her school project: she devised a plan to spray inside the tornado a mixture that could theoretically destroy it. Nature wins — three die, including the boyfriend; among the living, aside from Kate, only Javi remains. Five years later, he finds her in New York at an office job and convinces her to return to the field for a week. In Oklahoma it's tornado season, and Javi has a large team and serious funding. Together they first encounter a group of reckless YouTubers led by cowboy-meteorologist Tyler.
