In 2011, during a routine repair of a satellite in near-Earth space, a strange swarm emerged from a lunar crater and attacked the astronauts who were outside. One astronaut died; the author, Brian Harper, for several years after the incident tried to convince NASA that what happened was caused by an inexplicable phenomenon. Ten years later, the Moon suddenly destabilizes in its orbit and heads toward a collision with Earth, triggering multiple cataclysms and threatening humanity with extinction. An amateur astronomer, the first to notice the anomaly and claiming that the Moon is a megastructure, unsuccessfully tries to reach the government, and therefore asks for help from Harper, who has recently resigned.
