1909, northeastern Greenland. A Danish expedition led by Einar Mikkelsen is engaged in searching for the missing predecessors who had tried to prove Greenland's unity and its full belonging to Denmark, contrary to American claims that it was divided into two parts by the Peary Strait. After the discovery of a frozen body and a diary, Mikkelsen, instead of setting sail, decides to personally verify the inaccuracy of the Americans' claims to Greenland. Taking as his partner the young mechanic Iver Iversen, Einar sets off on the journey with dog sled teams.
