The events of the series unfold in parallel with the zombie apocalypse depicted in The Walking Dead, but in a completely different place—Los Angeles. At the heart of the story are Madison Clark, a single mother and career counselor, and Travis Manawa, a divorced teacher, who together try to survive the zombie apocalypse.
