Philip IV once honored the Order of the Templars and entrusted it with the care of the royal treasury. Over time, the appetites of the king and his court grew; more and more money was needed for war, the army, the police, and luxury. The king turned to the Master of the Order, Jacques de Molay, with questions about the condemnation, but the head of the Order refused him. Then the Templars were declared outlaws.
