Father Ted Crilly was exiled to manage the parish on the tiny Craggy Island off the coast of Ireland for embezzlement. To help him, or rather to his misfortune, they gave him a rather silly helper, Father Dougal McGuire, and a drunkard Father Jack Hackett. Father Dougal has just finished seminary, but behaves and thinks like a nine-year-old. Father Jack, on the contrary, has seen quite a lot in life, but alas, has lost not only his life experience but also his entire vocabulary, leaving only the bare essentials: "Arse! Women! Drink!". But even this does not set Ted, Dougal, and Jack apart from normal Catholic priests. They are burdened by the duties of the clergy and they do everything they can to avoid dealing with parish business and the problems of parishioners. What they'll come up with to avoid it!
