Delia and Wayne Malloy, along with their three children, are wandering con artists, members of a large Gypsy nomad clan. Delia and Wayne are potential new King and Queen of the camp; however, after Delia's release from prison it becomes clear that the leadership has already been decided to be handed to the former King's son, who immediately begins to oppress the former rivals. The Malloys steal money from the camp and leave. On the way they become witnesses and unwitting accomplices to a road accident in which the millionaire couple the Richeys die. Taking their documents, the Malloys move into their newly purchased house in a prestigious neighborhood and decide to "steal someone else's American dream" — to become ordinary, law-abiding, wealthy citizens of the United States. But will they succeed?
