Welcome to Portlandia, a television series that, in principle, shouldn’t exist. As the name suggests, it parodies the mores of Portland, Oregon—a city with a population of about half a million that has in recent years become the center of American bourgeois bohemia. It parodies these mores not exactly in an original way, and at times not even very funny, but with a devilish, unprecedented precision of aim.
