A package containing a robot-assistant ROZZUM 7134 falls onto an uninhabited island. While vainly trying to find tasks he can perform, the robot learns the language of animals and, following the guidance of an experienced mother opossum, begins to care for a tiny gosling whose family he accidentally crushed. Consultants swarm around him, including a goose-specialist, a sly fox named Finn, with whom no one wants to be friends.
