In May 2020, the coronavirus pandemic is gaining momentum. In the quiet provincial town of Eddington, where a quarantine has been declared and a mask mandate has been imposed, a confrontation brews between Sheriff Joe Cross and Mayor Ted Garcia, who plans to run for re-election and is devising a grand project—the construction of a large data center based on artificial intelligence. Reluctant to wear a mask, resistant to these plans, and nursing a strong personal animosity toward Garcia, Cross decides to challenge him and runs for the post of mayor.
