The Reverend Jad is transferred to an old church in the state of New York, where Monsignor Jefferson Wicks preaches. Jad cannot find common ground with Wicks and the parishioners. Soon, after finishing another sermon, the monsignor retires to the church quarters, and after thirty seconds he is found dead. Witnesses to the incident are devout Marta Delacroix, Dr. NetSharp, attorney Vera Draven, and writer Li Ross. Private detective Benoit Blan will investigate the murder.
