In 1986, the Smertlov family living in Pennsylvania buys an antique mirror for the Confirmation of one of their daughters. The same mirror that, twenty-two years earlier, had nearly claimed the Warrens' newborn daughter Judy. Now she has grown up and, having inherited from her mother the gift to hear and see the supernatural, tries to ignore the increasingly frequent and terrifying visions that come to her. Meanwhile, in the Smertlov home, all sorts of devilry begin to occur.
