In postwar London, a young writer Juliet must write an article about a book club. A stroke of luck arrives in the form of a letter from a pig farmer on the island of Guernsey. It turns out that even pig farmers like to read, and an unknown Dousi, to whom a book that had once belonged to Juliet has fallen into his hands, asks her to recommend a good bookstore. The thing is that books are in short supply on Guernsey right now, since the island, occupied by the Germans during the war, is just beginning to come back to life. The letter turns Juliet's life upside down. The story of the book club, which has become a cover for the villagers' forbidden gatherings, captivates and draws her in.
