Twenty years ago Baldev Singh emigrated to England with his family. According to Indian traditions, he plans to marry off his daughter Simran to the son of an old friend from Punjab. Shortly before the engagement, Simran meets Raj. The young couple fall in love with each other, and now they must break off the engagement and obtain Simran's parents' blessing.
