The story follows a twenty-year-old man, Angus "Mac" MacGyver, who creates a secret organization within the U.S. government, where he uses his exceptional talent for solving extraordinary problems and extensive scientific knowledge to save lives. Accompanying him on his perilous missions around the world will be an independent former CIA agent, Jack Dalton. Under the aegis of the Department of External Affairs, MacGyver takes on the task of saving the world, armed to the teeth with nothing but wit, gum, and a paperclip.
