Mu Di, who graduated from Peking University in the Chinese flute program, cannot pass the audition for the Civic Orchestra due to illness and is now forced to return to her hometown. There she meets the head of a company that plans weddings and funerals, Bai Lan, and begins working for him. The moments of sorrow and joy they share with the residents of the small town gradually heal Mu Di's heart and make her view the folk music she once loved in a new light.
