The parents of 18-year-old Julia died in a plane crash over Africa, having managed to send her a farewell text. Now she lives alone in a large house in a prestigious district of Oslo, employs a Polish builder named Krzysztof, participates in an amateur production of the Christian Gymnasium's theatre, goes horseback riding with a friend, and dreams of ending her life. After her first failed attempt, the Norwegian capital proves to be stifling for her — and Julia sets off to travel the world, continuing to keep a diary started on the advice of her psychotherapist.
