Twenty years ago, a circus arrived in a village not far from Caracas, and shortly after, Andreina Arocha, daughter of a landowner, dies of an incurable disease after giving birth to a daughter. Her stepmother, Erminia, an ambitious and unscrupulous woman, learns that in the village of gypsy-circus performers, a fortune-teller's daughter died in childbirth and her child was dead as well. Erminia has twin sons from a previous marriage, and the fact that they inherited everything forms a diabolical plan. At night, one servant carries out a substitution of the newborns. In the nobles' cradle lies the dead body of a Romani child, and Andreina's real daughter leaves with the circus.
