The basis of the TV series is the story of two families, Mezengo and Berdinazzi, bound forever by love and hate. The story begins in the 1940s of the twentieth century with a Romeo and Juliet-style romance between Enrico Mezengo and Giovanna Berdinazzi. The story continues half a century later and is expressed in a rivalry between Bruno Berdinazzi Mezengo, the "King of the Cattle" (son of Enrico and Giovanna) and his uncle Jeremias Berdinazzi for the attention of Luana, who is in fact the long-lost niece of Jeremias — Marietta.
