Joe-One is one of the best hired killers in Europe. While on a mission in Budapest, he saves dancer Maisie, with whom he gradually develops romantic feelings. Troubled by sudden episodes, Joe undergoes medical testing and learns that he is incurably ill, with no more than three months to live. To avoid suffering, he decides to hire the best killers and offers a substantial bounty for his death. Soon it turns out that the hospital had mixed up the tests, and the fatal diagnosis was incorrect. Canceling the order is impossible, and Joe's colleagues have already started carrying it out.
