While the Communists and Kuomintang fighters are fighting one another, the northeast of the country is almost completely overrun by bandit groups consisting of criminals, traitors, and former Japanese henchmen. A small detachment of Liberation Army fighters under the command of the young Captain Shao Jianbo hacks through the snow-covered mountains of Mudanjiang, pursuing the bandits from the Sokol gang.
