Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, also known as Carlos, was a key figure in international terrorism in the 1970s and 1980s, carrying out terrorist attacks in the interests of both the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Japanese Red Army. A representative of the romantically minded far-left fringe and at the same time a mercenary killer for the secret services of the Near and Middle East, Carlos created his own organization, located on the other side of the Iron Curtain and operating in the final years of the Cold War.
