Thomas, a former serviceman with PTSD, has nowhere to turn, so he ends up living rough in London. One day a Catholic nun offers him a place to stay in an old house, together with a young woman named Magda and her terminally ill mother, who is kept locked on the second floor. Thomas helps with the repairs to the house, gradually falling in love with the young woman, and he increasingly feels that something sinister is going on there.
