Marian, a modest teacher, has two joys in life: singing in an amateur choir and spending time talking with Veronica. He understands that he must change his life, stop drifting, and become the master of his own fate, for which he needs to pull off a lucrative business. He must, by fair means and foul, raise the missing sum to carry out the venture, and then he will be able to pull off a wedding with Veronica. And then fate brings Marian together with an unscrupulous Uncle Petro, who promises to help him obtain the money.
