In 1925, the celebration at the Chimneys country estate ends in tragedy: one guest dies in a strange manner, and the killer leaves seven alarm clocks beside the body. The police are at a loss and offer no theories, while Superintendent Battle concentrates on inspecting the crime scene. Then the young, inquisitive aristocrat Aline Brent decides to conduct her own investigation.
