Young unemployed gamer Ryohei Arisu quarreled with his father and older brother for the umpteenth time and left home. He meets two close friends—one who skips work, the other who has been fired—in the Shibuya area. There the guys witness a strange fireworks display in the sky, and soon a new reality overtakes the trio. The friends find themselves in a deserted version of Tokyo and realize that they now must participate in brutal survival games, after successfully completing which they will be issued visas for a few days. The losers face death, those who exit the games face death as well, and those who refuse to extend their visas also face instant death from a celestial laser.
