Young police officer Kyle Craig is one of the best patrol officers in Los Angeles, but he dreams of something entirely different. Kyle wants to break into the investigative division so that, along with other cases, he can see the murder of his father—also a police officer—through to its conclusion. Management agrees to give him a chance and assigns him to the unit headed by Detective Frank Rorke, one of the most unruly and reckless police officers. However, the rookie's mission is not limited to soaking up new street experiences and gaining experience; above all, Kyle must gather information on Rorke, who has long been suspected of ties to local gang factions. The intensive rookie training becomes a war for Kyle, in which he cannot trust anyone or anything.
