The setting of the series is the spaceship Red Dwarf. A deadly radiation burst kills all living things on board, except for the junior technician Dave Lister, who is in a time dilator, and his pregnant cat Frankenstein, which was in the cargo bay. Holly, the onboard computer of Red Dwarf, keeps Lister in the dilator until the radiation level drops to a safe level, which takes 3,000,000 years. Thus Lister, effectively, becomes the last representative of the human race, but not the only form of life aboard the ship. Holly resurrects him as a hologram of his bunkmate and direct superior Arnold Rimmer. Also, on the ship lives a being known as The Cat, descended from Lister's cat. Dear users!
