Once a popular reporter for Stern magazine, Gerd Heidemann has long been out of work and, to get out of it, is seeking a new scoop. In the meantime, Konrad Kuyau, a petty criminal and forger, needs money. He passes himself off as Doctor Konrad Fischer, and sells fake artifacts to old Nazis and collectors. When he manages to sell a painting of Hitler bearing an autograph, to the delight of his clients, a brilliant idea arises: to write and sell Hitler's diaries.
