The series portrays the events of World War II through the eyes of ordinary people from different sides of the conflict. Among them is Nancy, a war correspondent from the United States, who becomes the first person to witness 1000 German tanks moving toward France. The show covers the events of the war's first year—from Germany's invasion of Poland in September 1939 to the Battle of Britain in the summer and autumn of 1940.
