Catherine of Aragon, a princess of Spain, who from childhood was promised in marriage to the King of England, Arthur. She arrives in the rain-soaked land with her court, including her maid Lina. Catherine becomes the object of close attention and scrutiny from everyone around her — her husband and his new family — Margaret Beaufort, Margaret Pole, Prince Harry, his sister Margaret Tudor, King Henry Tudor, and Queen Elizabeth. Soon Prince Arthur dies suddenly, and Catherine, it would seem, has no claim to the throne or power. However she asserts that their marriage was not consummated, and in that case she may claim to marry the rightful heir, Prince Harry.
