Elphaba is now known as the Wicked Witch of the West and is in exile in the forests of Oz. She continues the fight for the rights of animals whose voices have been suppressed, and she tries to reveal the truth about the Wizard. Glinda the Good Witch becomes a public symbol of goodness, lives in the palace of the Emerald City, and uses the advantages of her popularity. Under the direction of Madame Morrible, she appears before the people of Oz, assuring them of stability under the Wizard's rule. As Glinda's fame grows and preparations for her wedding to Prince Fiyero proceed, the witch begins to worry about the growing rift with Elphaba. Glinda's attempts to reconcile Elphaba with the Wizard prove unsuccessful, only deepening their conflict.
