The film tells the story of detective Ellison McLin, a mother of two living in Seattle. When she and her partner have to arrest her own brother, Ellison's world is turned upside down. Ellison's brother is sentenced to prison, while his two teenage children are left without supervision. Ellison doesn't want them placed in foster care, and decides to take the children in herself.
